1. Go the Distance – Terms & Conditions

   Go the Distance is a fundraising initiative of the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research to raise funds for medical research, including research into CAR T-cell therapy and cancer treatment in New Zealand.

   The Event takes place from 1 April 2026 to 30 April 2026. Participants choose their own distance goal and complete their challenge by walking, running, cycling, swimming or moving their way during the Event period.

   By registering as a participant in the Event, I agree to accept and comply with the following Terms & Conditions.

   ---

   1. General

   1. I confirm that I am at least eighteen (18) years old, or that I have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian if under eighteen.

   2. My participation in the Event is voluntary and undertaken at my own discretion. I understand that I may withdraw from the Event at any time.

   3. I acknowledge that participation in the Event involves physical activity and may involve risks, including the risk of injury, illness or harm associated with physical exertion.

   4. I warrant that I am physically fit and capable of safely participating in the Event. I understand it is my sole responsibility to consult with a medical professional prior to participating if I have any health concerns or conditions that may affect my ability to participate safely.

   5. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation in the Event.

   6. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I:

      • release and discharge the Institute, its directors, officers, employees, contractors, volunteers and agents (“the Indemnified Parties”) from any liability, loss, damage or claim arising directly or indirectly from my participation in the Event; and

      • agree not to bring any claim against the Indemnified Parties for injury, loss or damage suffered in connection with my participation, including where caused by negligence.

   7. I acknowledge that the Institute does not provide insurance for participants and that I am responsible for arranging my own insurance, including personal injury and public liability insurance if required.

   8. I agree to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and public health guidance while participating in the Event.

   9. I agree not to participate if I am unwell or if participation would place myself or others at risk.

   2. Fundraising

   1. By registering for the Event, I agree to fundraise in support of the Institute.

   2. I will create a fundraising page via the official Go the Distance event website and ensure that all donations are made through the approved fundraising platform.

   3. I acknowledge that all donations made through my fundraising page are collected on behalf of, and are the property of, the Institute.

   4. I agree not to collect cash donations or donations outside the approved platform unless expressly authorised by the Institute.

   5. I understand that I am authorised to fundraise for the Institute only in accordance with applicable laws and regulations in the country or region in which I am fundraising.

   6. If I am fundraising outside New Zealand, I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to comply with all applicable local fundraising laws.

   3. Content

   1. Any content I upload to the Event website or fundraising platform, including photos, videos, messages or stories (“Content”), is my responsibility.

   2. I warrant that I own the rights to the Content or have permission to use it, and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party.

   3. I grant the Institute a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, reproduce, modify and publish the Content (in whole or in part) for the purposes of promoting the Event and the Institute, across all media.

   4. I agree that the Institute may remove any Content it deems inappropriate, misleading or offensive.

   4. Badges, Rewards and Prize Draws

   1. Participants may be eligible to unlock digital badges or rewards by achieving fundraising or distance milestones.

   2. Where a prize draw is offered, only participants who meet the stated eligibility criteria (including collecting all required badges) will be entered into the draw.

   3. Prizes are not transferable and are subject to availability and any additional terms communicated by the Institute.

   4. The Institute’s decision regarding prize draws and rewards is final.

   5. Privacy

   1. I acknowledge that the Institute collects personal information for the purposes of event registration, fundraising administration, issuing receipts, and communicating about the Event.

   2. My personal information may also be used to keep me informed about the Institute’s research, events and fundraising activities. I understand that I can opt out of communications at any time.

   3. The Institute will handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ) and its Privacy Policy.
