Miss you Elaine and Vince.

This is my first participation in a fundraiser  like this since 'blisters for bread' (a 20 km walk back in the 1980s). I am biking 'going the distance' of 510 km in the month of April 2026, not a big hardship, but will take some effort. Thanks to everyone who supports me I really do feel passionate about Malaghans amazing research (see their words below) and the tangible help it can bring people. Hope you learn about their work through this, and all donations gratefully accepted. Special thanks for my first donors who have already got me halfway there.

Elaine was a very loved friend from my youth in South Africa, and we caught up many times in NZ and Australia and in the UK too. Gone too soon, 2019 to cancer. Vince was my very first friend in New Zealand, the first friend here who I had hilarious fun with late nights out dancing. I hadn't seen him for years, also gone too soon, 2019.

From Malaghan

Right now, many Kiwis with aggressive blood cancers have to travel thousands of kilometres overseas and pay enormous costs to access CAR T treatment.

I’m taking on this challenge because no one should have to leave Aotearoa for life-changing cancer care. Every kilometre I complete and every dollar I raise will support the Malaghan Institute’s ENABLE-2 trial - a critical step toward making CAR T-cell therapy available in New Zealand’s public health system, close to home and whānau.

Please support my challenge if you can. Together, we can help bring this treatment home.

My Updates

Made the Distance

Wednesday 29th Apr
This has been such a good experience - 510k on the bike was a real push (and the last 200 meters was a walk after miscalculation on the last ride - will perfect that tomorrow). Best thing about this was connecting to the other people going the distance via events and online - many people having cancer treatment and participating too. Thanks to all donors and encouragers. Attempted arty photo of my bike lit up for morning ride.
