I'm going the distance this April to help bring life-changing CAR T-cell therapy home to New Zealand.
Right now, many Kiwis with aggressive blood cancers have to travel thousands of kilometres overseas and pay enormous costs to access CAR T treatment.
I’m taking on this challenge because no one should have to leave Aotearoa for life-changing cancer care. Every kilometre I complete and every dollar I raise will support the Malaghan Institute’s ENABLE-2 trial - a critical step toward making CAR T-cell therapy available in New Zealand’s public health system, close to home and whānau.

A New Chapter: 100km for CAR T-Cell Therapy
Tuesday 10th MarI’m writing this with a huge sense of relief and "Hurrah!" Today marks a major turning point in my journey: I am officially starting monthly maintenance.
I feel incredibly lucky to have had access to Daratumumab here in New Zealand and, even better, to have responded so well to it. I have been doing a quad chemo - therapy for 7 months (daily weekly and fortnightly with different drugs). I can now drop my all forms of chemo and start live with a monthly treatment-free life (until my next appointment on April 7th).
While I’m celebrating this win, I know the reality of Myeloma is that it may one day awaken again. My hope is that when that time comes, CAR T-cell therapy will be widely available right here in NZ.
To help make that a reality for myself and other New Zealanders, I’m setting a challenge for the month of April. I am committing to walk, run, or cycle 100km (though I’m secretly aiming for 200km!) to fundraise for this life-changing therapy.
