I'm going the distance this April to help bring life -saving CAR T-cell therapy home to New Zealand.

Right now, many Kiwis with aggressive blood cancers have to travel thousands of kilometres overseas and pay enormous costs to access CAR T treatment. 

I’m taking on this challenge because no one should have to leave Aotearoa for life-changing cancer care. Every kilometre I complete and every dollar I raise will support the Malaghan Institute’s ENABLE-2 trial - a critical step toward making CAR T-cell therapy available in New Zealand’s public health system, close to home and whānau.

Saturday 28th Feb

Today, I am in remission and receiving immunotherapy treatment — something I am deeply grateful for. But remission doesn’t mean the journey is over. It means living with rebellious hope, and immense appreciation for the science and people who make treatments possible.

That’s why I’m walking 200km in April.

Each kilometre represents gratitude for the treatment I have received, alongside the support from family, friends, doctors, nurses and work colleagues.

CAR-T cell therapy is one of the most groundbreaking advances in blood cancer treatment globally. In simple terms it uses a patient’s own immune system to fight their cancer.

The Malaghan Institute is working to develop CAR-T cell therapy here in New Zealand, so that Kiwis can access life-saving treatment here in NZ.

Malagan are laying the foundations, via the ENABLE  clinical trials to help bring CAR T-cell cancer therapy into New Zealand’s public health system.  Every donation helps to turn this treatment into a reality.
